I had a brain stem stroke with locked in syndrome 11-14-2001 at age 31 and spent 5 1/2 months in various hospitals paralyzed from the neck down. After many years of rehabilitation I am walking, talking, eating, and living on my own. I am also a full time student, mother of two, sister, friend, advocate and more. In December of this year I will be graduating with my bachelors degree in human services and in August of 2012 I will begin graduate school to get my masters in social work. By the year 2014 I plan to be teaching at community college and being a social worker somewhere in the clinical setting.
